I just came across this and I think it’s the ultimate review of the Garmin 310 XT – it’s very in-depth and at time overly but I love that about the review too much is great. And heaps of pictures also.

Read it for your self here http://dcrainmaker.blogspot.com

He even takes it on a plane and records the journey, now that’s cool :-)

He says “Basically my rule of thumb is – if it takes less time to fly to Europe than it does to complete the race, it’s no longer a short race. ”

Run with a group of 10, tough start with 1.5miles of climbing, hard hard, had to be careful of my back after pulling muscles on Friday.

Total 1227 Cal.
The Suffer Fest video for warm up then full 1hr Tri Spin class, straight to a fast brick run. The suffer fest was fun, the run was tough. I started the run behind the group, I could just see them disappear round the corner as I started, it took 1.5 miles to catch and pass them. It was tough to stay ahead for the next 1.5 mile but did it.

Distance was slightly longer as the GPS didn’t start counting from the start. It was a loop so the finish was correct but the start was late.

Garmin 310 XT Question

November 12, 2009 Garmin Comments

I’m wondering is I can rename some of the standard exercises on the watch.
It has :
Running
Bike 1
Bike 2
Bike 3
Other.

I really want :
Running
Bike Outdoor
Bike Indoor
Strength
Yoga
Step
Swimming
as that’s what my week normally has happening again and again. I’ll have to look at the Garmin blog and I saw a place to post questions so will look into that also.

Update:
I found the Garmin Forums here

run

I jogged over to Basic Training SF for Day 2 of the session, it was 1 mile to get there, I had to extend the run to make sure it got to the mile mark.
Then we ran up Lyon St stairs, on the way doing pushups, squats and mountain climbers. At the first landing we did held a 90degree squat against the wall before heading up more stairs sideways. Then at the top we jogged down the road before doing some squats. Then the hell started run up the hill getting faster towards the top, that was tough. The first time I managed to accelerate and over take the group, but I was done at the top – heart rate was around 184 and I was spent, slowly I jogged down, slowly.

Then at the bottom we did pushups and squats, before going up again. I couldn’t run the whole way, but we did it again anyway. Then we went down the other side and did off angle pushups.

Run back to the start and we are done – 55 minutes and 600 or so calories.

I then ran to the gym and did core exercises with weights for 30 mins before running home.

Workout details to come when I download from the Garmin, which is not really downloading it’s just turning it on when close to the computer – so easy.

To learn more about group workouts and bootcamp style sessions visit http://www.basictrainingsf.com/ they have a range of sessions that are perfect for improving your fitness, getting back into shape and ripping your body into great shape.

Synced the Garmin so here are the details. Images from BasicTrainingSF.

Recovery Run

run

Went for a recovery run today. It’s been a while since I was running and so today was always going to be an interesting test.

I tried to stay slow around the 11.30 mark for the initial hills (was closer to 11.00) then after that allowed myself to go a little faster. At one point I was flying along but then tried to pull it back. Towards the end my left knee started to hurt a bit but it didn’t stop me.

Started out ok then had a delay about 16mins in that took abt 10 mins to sort out then continued on and made the decision at the coastal trail to cut short the first loop so that I could make the meeting time at the Y. Meet up with some people heading out for a ride and did the check in thing at the Y.

Then was free to go running again (it was maybe a 15-20 min stop) so then headed out for a forwards loop of the 7 mile course, had a small 5 min detour, but most of the time was running. Felt generally ok – issues in the early part knees and later the ankle, but the knees were the only thing I stopped for and rubbed (the left one).
Managed to run at a good slow pace and not push too hard.

I found out how to adjust the Virtual Partner, as I’m running slow at the moment it was set at 9:15 and I’m trying to average 10:30. At first I ignored it and focused on other stuff, but now that I’ve had the watch for a while, I wanted to adjust it. Turns out it’s quite simple to change.

Before you start, press the mode button until you see the Virtual Partner then press up or down arrows. Then just wait a few seconds and it will set it. You’re done. Simple. Time to run now.
