Auburn Triathlon 2010
The hardest race I have ever done the bike course is packed full of hills.

Escape from Alcatraz Triathlon 2010
A great day for racing, I cut 21mins of my swim and went fast on both bike and run. Almost an hour off last years time.

Ford Ironman 70.3 California
My number 1000 front and center, easy to remember and very cool experience.

Rock Racing Gear
I recently bought some gear from Rock Racing and it looks great! I went out for a 26 mile ride in them to test them out, and I really liked the bib shorts the material was really soft and had heaps of padding. The pants seemed very smooth on the outside and would slide easily around on the seat. And they do look great.

New Year’s Day Hike
sights from our hiking trip

sights from our hiking trip

Head North from the city about 40 mins drive to Pt Reyes then drive a bit more and then hike for 2 hours or so, covered 6 miles almost 10km! Saw lots of Elk.

We arrive early as the girls need to get their bikes sort out. It was a little chilly but not too bad. After we had signed in and put on our wrist bands, we made an early start, about 30 minutes before the main group headed off.

Everyone did really well to make it up the first hill, cause it’s a tough one, quite steep and just keeps going. After that we coasted downhill. We then had a seat “issue” so it was very uncomfortable to ride. At Nicasio we managed to find someone with tools so we were able to fix the seat. We rode on towards Point Reyes, as we were approaching the peloton caught us.

We then rolled into town, visited the bakery and looked for the group. It seems they must have decided to continue straight through. So we rested for a bit before continuing on, we made a wrong turn or two but didn’t go too far out of the way. There were more hills than I remember!

By the time we arrived at Lagunitas the girls were looking out for the van to pick them up but alas it was not to be seen. After a break we got ready for the last 7 miles. I went out in front and pushed my way to the top of the hill and waited for them to catch me. They ended up pushing their bikes up the hill, it’s not easy. After that we had a nice downhill that provided a nice rush of cool wind.

A few back streets and back into Fairfax, where the bike guy was waiting for us. Props to the girls – it was an amazing achievement to do 40 miles on only their second ride!

ESCAPE From Alcatraz Triathlon
June 8, 2008

Update: I was a volunteer in 2008, and later in the year entered the random draw for a place in the 2009 race. I was lucky enough to be drawn to race in the 2009 Escape.
